Ronald C. Norton, 67, of Kasson, MN passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, St. Mary’s Campus. Ron was born on April 13, 1949 in Minneapolis, MN to Raymond & Ileen (Clark) Norton. He spent his childhood in Minneapolis and was a graduate of Edison High School there.
 
On November 14, 1981 he married Madonna Wojtczak. They made their home in Kasson for over 20 years. Ron was a mechanical engineer at McNeilus Mfg. in Dodge Center.
 
He is survived by his wife, Madonna; son, Robert Norton, of Byron, MN; mother, Ileen Norton, of Richfield, MN; sister, Pat Norton (Curtis Pratt), and two granddaughters.
 
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Pax Christi Catholic Church, 4135 18th Ave NW, Rochester, MN with Fr. Joe Fogel officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to them for distribution later according to their wishes.

David Albert Andreen, 79, of Kasson, passed away peacefully at the Mayo Clinic Methodist campus on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
 
He was born on August 25, 1937 at home near New London, MN to Andrew and Anna (Jensen) Andreen. After graduating from New London High School he served in the National Guard for 8 years. He married Charlotte (Peterson) on November 2, 1958. Following their marriage, his career in the feed and grain business took them to Plainview, MN where they resided until 1966 when they moved to the Kasson-Mantorville area. He continued working in the feed and grain business and went on to work for the Mayo Clinic for 11 ½ years. His family was his pride and joy. He was very passionate about his church where he had served on the council, ushered, and where he and Charlotte visited numerous shut-ins. He also volunteered at the food shelf. He was known for his sense of humor and always having a joke.
 
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlotte; children: Lynda (Randy) Oswald of Farmington, Lyle (Deb) Andreen of Mazeppa, Lori (Roger) Carlsen of Mantorville, Layne (Laurie Cavagnaro) Andreen of Napa, CA, and Lisa (Scott) Boyum of Byron; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; siblings: Clifford of Wilmar, Ron (Ione) of Willmar, Paul (Carol) of Spicer, Florence of St. Paul, and Oscar of Fairfield, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Don (twin brother), Pete, Ludwig, Jim, Adeline, and Evelyn.
 
Visitation will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson on Sunday, March 5th from 5-7pm and 1 hour before the service. Funeral Service, also at St. John’s, will be held at 11am on Monday, March 6th with Pastor Nirmala Reinschmidt officiating.

Virginia (Sitz) Klingvall, 95, passed away February 28, 2017 at Maple Manor Nursing Home, Rochester, where she had been a resident for four years.
 
Virginia was born on October 19, 1921 in Byron, MN, the daughter of Emil and Marie Sitz. Virginia attended school in Byron and graduated in 1939. After graduation, she attended the Minnesota School of Business and then worked at the Paper Supply Company in Minneapolis.
 
On May 29, 1953 she married Martin Klingvall. They moved to Byron to the home where she was born and lived with her parents. Martin (Marty) passed away March 19, 1977. Virginia enjoyed entertaining and was a gracious hostess, especially celebrating birthdays with her friends. She was chosen “Byron Good Neighbor” in 1989. Virginia was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Chester and Sherwood Sitz. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
 
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson, MN. Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church, 201 Frontage Rd NW, Byron, MN 55920.

Marie Louise Kaufeld passed away peacefully, in the company of family members, on March 12, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 90 years old and a resident of the Rose Court memory care facility of Prairie Meadows Senior Living in Kasson, Minnesota.
 
Marie was born to Frank and Mary Chantiny on September 12, 1926 and spent her early years on the family farm near Mayville, Michigan. She lived through the Depression era and learned early the virtues of hard work and thriftiness, which she exemplified throughout her life. She shared in the chores and labor on the farm, and started her first job beyond the farm at the age of 14 in a nearby country store. From there she progressed through several different positions, leading to one at Pontiac Motors where she met the love of her life and future husband, Dan. They were married October 31, 1952 and she became the mother of two children and a devoted, nurturing homemaker, giving continual love and support to her husband and family. Marie prided herself on her cooking, always preparing 3 square meals a day for her family. And beyond – with 9 brothers and sisters on her side, her husband Dan’s identical twin Jim and his family, and two sets of grandparents, extended family events were pretty frequent! She was very creative and enjoyed sewing and other craft work. She was dedicated to this role until the “nest emptied”, when she returned to the workforce, doing clerical work for Dr. Charles Patrick in Drayton Plains, Michigan.
 
Marie was strong in her faith and took an active role in her church, serving as deacon for Church of the Atonement Presbyterian and participating in their Mariners social organization. She and Dan were avid bowlers and golfers and enjoyed traveling from their home in Waterford, Michigan to various events and tournaments over the years. After retirement, they expanded their travels, spending at least a part of the winters in Florida. They enjoyed country music and would plan a stop so they could partake of the “Renfro Valley Gatherin’” in Kentucky on their way down. They served as volunteers for Red Cross Blood Donor campaigns. They moved to Minnesota in 2002 to be closer to family for help and support as they encountered some health problems. They joined First Presbyterian Church in Kasson and were active members there.
 
Marie is survived by children, Dan (Gayle) Kaufeld and Janice Swindell, grandchildren, Wendi (Aron) Flynn, Kevin (Kim) Kaufeld, Jessica (Heath) Griesbach, and Danielle (Kyle) Nakatsuji, and great-grandchildren, Colin and Niall Flynn, Alden Kaufeld, and Mya and Brielle Griesbach. She is also survived by brothers Charles (Mary) Chantiny and Edward (Jan) Chantiny and sisters Jennette Robare, Lorraine Cramer, and Florence (Don) Werner, brother-in-law James (Louise) Kaufeld, sister-in-law Pat Chantiny, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dan W. Kaufeld, brothers Francis (Phyllis) Chantiny, Harmon Chantiny, and Oscar Chantiny, sister Angeline (George) Bass, and brother-in-law Rex Cramer.
 
A memorial service for Marie is being planned for late spring with Pastor Dan Yeasel of the First Presbyterian Church, Kasson, officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery, Lake Orion, Michigan.
 
The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to Season’s Hospice and Prairie Meadows Rose Court for their care of Marie especially in her final days.
 
Memorials are preferred to be directed towards Alzheimer’s Disease Research at the Mayo Clinic or to First Presbyterian Church, 101 6th Ave NW, Kasson.

David “Dave” Arthur Lien of Kasson, Minnesota passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the age of 77.
 
Dave was born in Rochester, MN on September 10, 1939, the son of Maxine and Lester Lien. He graduated from Kasson-Mantorville High School in 1957. After high school, Dave began his career of 35 years at IBM and honorably served his country in the National Guard.
 
On September 2, 1961 Dave married Bonnie Ruport and they resided in Kasson MN where they raised their only daughter, Stephanie. Dave was active in all sports, enjoyed snowmobiling, playing cribbage with friends, camping, and was an avid fisherman. He was a wonderful family man and friend to many. For 55+ years he went downtown for coffee at 5:30 am with his buddies. Dave was an active member of the Rochester Quarterback Club and Kasson American Legion. He most loved spending time with his two grandchildren, Benjamin and Brooklyn. Dave was best known for his triumph over any medical challenges posed to him without ever a complaint. He served as an inspiration to all who met him.
 
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on March 27 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave NW, Kasson, MN with Pastor Nirmala Reinschmidt officiating. Friends may visit from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of services at the church. A graveside memorial service will be held for family following the service. Military graveside services will be provided by the Kasson American Legion and Mantorville VFW.
 
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Fairview Care Center staff for the kindness and compassion shown to him and his family and to St. Mary’s Hospital for their continued dedication and excellent patient care. The family also appreciates all who have supported them in this time of loss with their caring words and loving actions.

Amanda Lorraine Larsen of Byron passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Amanda was born on October 2, 1921 in Salem Township near Rock Dell to parents George and Ella Amundson. She attended country school in Salem Township and graduated from Byron High School in 1939. She married her high school sweetheart, Christopher Glen Larsen, on November 14, 1946 at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church near Rock Dell. The couple farmed near Byron. Amanda was a Charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in Byron where she participated in various activities. She enjoyed cooking, vegetable and flower gardening, bird watching, reading, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
 
Survivors include her children Thomas Larsen (Martha), Glen Larsen, Karen Larsen, Ruth Larsen (Kenneth Wang); grandchildren Emily Hamilton (Ryan), Jason Larsen (Sara), Clinton Larsen (Joleen), Martin Larsen; six great grandchildren; her sister Eleanor Staplekamp; many nieces and nephews; and special granddogs Eddie and Ellfie.
 
Her husband, brother (Orville Amundson), and parents preceded her in death.
 
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 at Christ Lutheran Church, 201 Frontage Rd NW, Byron with Pastor Steve Rheingans officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church in Byron.

Roberta Burgess Meddleton, 95, of Kasson went to be with her Lord on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester, St. Mary’s Campus.
 
Roberta was born on September 4, 1921 in Mantorville, MN. She was the second oldest of 11 children. She married Wilford Burgess on January 3, 1940. They had six children. She was very involved in operating the family farm and raising her family. Wilford passed away in February, 1979. Late in life, she married Bernie Meddleton, and enjoyed 28 years of marriage with him until he passed away in December, 2010.
 
Roberta was known for her great cooking and hospitality of friends, family and guests. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, needlework and decorating. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Mantorville from the time she was born and was involved in many church activities, including being a Deacon. She was also quite active in the community she loved as a member of the Eastern Star, Meals on Wheels, and volunteering at the Mantorville Welcome Center. Roberta was known for her generosity and kindness to family, friends and those in need. She was also known to be a beautiful person inside and out.
 
Roberta is survived by siblings Klaus Alberts, Jr., Nadine Larson, Arlene Franz and Carolyn Holmquist; children Brenda (John) Rud, Douglas (Jan) Burgess, Kathleen (Jim) Jensen, Dennis (Nancy) Burgess, Vicki (Gary) Hoffbauer and Robyn (David) Kruchten; step-children Margie (Pat) Coronal and Pat (Patty) Meddleton. Roberta is also survived by many grandchildren and step-grandchildren spanning five generations.
 
A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 515 Walnut Street, Mantorville at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 with Pastor Brian Egelston officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Mantorville.

Betty Lavaine Wohlfiel , 83 of Kasson, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.
She was born Aug. 15, 1933 to Edwin and Helma Ness in rural Dodge County, Minnesota. On Feb. 27, 1952 she was united in marriage to Melvin L. Kramer. They had two daughters, Bonnie and Diane. Melvin was killed in a car accident in 1960. On July 16, 1966, Betty was joined in marriage to Kenneth D. Wohlfiel at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson, MN. They had one son, Kevin.
 
Betty was very involved in the activities at St. John’s Lutheran Church including a member of Martha Bible Study, WELCA Activities, Quilters, Alter Guild and volunteering in the church office. She worked many years in the Kasson-Mantorville Schools from which she retired. She was a very compassionate, giving person who was always there with hot dishes and baking when people were in need of encouragement. She made many quilts and sewing projects for her children, loved ones and puppies. She loved to sit outside and visit with the neighbors or strike up a conversation with anyone who stopped by long enough for a chat.
 
Betty is survived by her children Bonnie (Mark) Brown of Dodge Center, Diane (Marc) Pilcher of Faribault and Kevin (Sherri) Wohlfiel, of Kasson, six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by two brothers Ernest (Margaret) Ness, Franklin (Sandy) Ness and two sister-in-laws Lorraine Ness and Colleen Ness all of Kasson along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents , three brothers, Stanley, Manford and Davis Ness and one sister, Doris Iverson.
 
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 6, from 5-7 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave. NW, Kasson and one hour before the funeral service. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 7 also at St. John’s. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.

Leona R. Blatti, 101, of Kasson and formerly of rural Mantorville, died March 31, 2017, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center of natural causes. She enjoyed her friends and activities while living at Sunwood Manor during the last three years.
 
She was born September 1, 1915, to Josephine and Charles Leth, and graduated from Mantorville High School in 1932. She was employed at George Trenholm’s in Rochester for 18 months and then attended the School of Nursing at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, for two years. On May 1, 1935, she married Melvin Blatti in rural Mantorville. They farmed in the Mantorville area for about 45 years and were married for 64 years. In 1949, she became a waitress at the Hubbell House and later worked there as bookkeeper and cashier. Leona enjoyed entertaining, travel, quilting, and playing cards.
 
Leona was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Kasson and the K-M TOPS Club. She volunteered for the lutefisk suppers at St. John’s Lutheran Church, for the Friends of the Library, and for Meals on Wheels at Sunwood Manor.
 
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Kaske of Minneapolis and Cheryl (Bruce) Henning of Zumbrota; one son, Stanley (Karen) Blatti of Memphis, Tennessee; five grandsons, three step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, five brothers, two sisters, and special friend and companion Clarence Theel.
 
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 8, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 Eighth Ave. N.W., from 10:00-11:00 a.m. There will be no reviewal. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.

There will be a Memorial Gathering for Terrance Twite at the Dibble Funeral Home (213 W. Main St. Kasson, MN) from 5:30-8pm on Monday April 10, 2017. Terrance died Tuesday April 4, 2017 at his home. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on January 28, 1951 to John and Mary (Lamek) Twite. His family moved to Brownsville, MN to open the Shellhorn Supper Club when Terrance was a teenager. He married Bonnie Klug on December 31, 1972 in Caledonia.
 
Terrance was the proud papa of Tylar (Sara), Manya, Andrew (Stacy), Nick, and Leah (Myles), and was special “Papa T” to grandchildren Oliver and Maiara. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary, infant brother, John, and beloved daughter, Manya. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters, Julie Twite and Mary (Phil) Hoiland, brothers-in-law Jerry (Susie) Klug, Bill (Sue) Klug, and sisters-in-law Jane (Ivan) Fernandez and Barbara (Jeff) Klug.
 
Following the death of his father in 1973, Terrance joined his mother in business, building on and creating Shellhorn Roadhouse on the Mississippi, where you could “bring your load by boat or road.” The Twites enjoyed serving many loyal customers and friends until Shellhorn was heavily damaged by fire in the summer of 1986.
 
In 1987 Terrance and his family relocated to Dodge Center where he developed the Wasioja Education Technology Co-op, providing interactive TV services to several area school districts. He served as the Director of WETC until his retirement.
 
Terrance leaves behind his loving family and true friends who share countless memories of happier times.

Phyllis A. Bradford, 81, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield, MN. She was born October 6, 1935, to Vernon and Jeanette (McEathron) Johnston. Phyllis grew up in Wasioja and attended Mantorville High School where she graduated in 1953.
 
On October 10, 1953, she married David Bradford. They had three daughters, Vickie, Cindy and Jody. Together they enjoyed lots of camping, fishing and water sports. Phyllis was a great cook and many delighted in her baked goods.
 
Phyllis is survived by daughters Cindy Nordstrom and Jody (Randy) Liudahl; daughter-in-law Stephanie Hallisy; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her daughter Vickie.

James Otto Maxson a life-long resident of Mantorville, MN passed away on Friday April 14, 2017 with his family at his side after suffering a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Jim was born at his home in rural Mantorville on 2-19-38 to parents Peters R Maxson and Edna H Berg. He graduated from Kasson-Mantorville High School in 1956 served in the Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He married the love of his life, Colleen Andrist, on April 2nd 1961. They lived in rural Mantorville and welcomed three children, Lea Ann, Robin and Dalen, who were the most important part of his life. He was blessed with 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
 
Jim was an Electrical Contractor and owner of Maxson Electric. He worked from 1974 to 2012. He was a Master Mason, Shriner, served on the Mantorville Township, Mantorville City Council, Congregational Church Board, and was a dedicated community volunteer to multiple organizations. He enjoyed all sports, singing, dancing, boating, and time with family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Peters, mother Edna, sisters Rose Marie Lohrbach and Shirley Mae Leth. He is survived by his wife Colleen Maxson; children Lea Ann (John), Robin (Kristy) and Dalen (Julie), brother Richard Duayne Maxson; and grandchildren Hayley, Mallory, Rylan, Liberty, Ashlyn, and Brooklyn.
 
He was a devoted husband and father who was beloved by many and will live forever in our hearts.
 
The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 22 at The First Congregational Church, 515 Walnut Street, Mantorville with Pastor Brian Egelston officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Friday, April 21 from 5:00-8:00 pm and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Kasson. Military graveside services will be provided by the Kasson American Legion and the Mantorville VFW.

Harriet Jester of Dodge Center passed away peacefully at Fairview Care Center on January 27, 2017.
 
Harriet was born on January 28, 1935 in Rochester, Minnesota, the daughter of Lester and Luella. She grew up on a farm in Olmsted County where she met Theodore Singfiel, was married, raised six children and farmed until 1968. They moved to Mississippi for a couple of years and then to Kasson. Harriet loved to fish, ice fish, travel, play cards, listen to music and sing. She upholstered furniture, was known for her knitting, crocheting, sewing and crafting. She had a “green thumb” when it came to her vegetable and flower gardens. Harriet could bake and cook with the best of them.
 
She moved to Montana where she met and married Bill Jester. They lived there for 20 years and returned to Kasson in 1995. They loved to fly with friends and travel. Bill passed away in 2001 from cancer and has been deeply missed.
 
Survivors include three daughters, Beverly (Arlin) Johnson of Kasson, Bonnie Longmire of Rochester, and Carol (John) Allen of Mantorville; three sons, Scott (Pam), and Daniel (Robyn), both of Mantorville and John of Rochester; stepsons Tom (Deanna), Wally (Gail), and Lloyd (Connie) Jester; and stepdaughter Mariann (Tom) all of Montana. She is also survived by four sisters, Phyllis Jensen and Shirley Mahon of Missouri, Marlene (Dan) Fenske of Kellogg, and Lois (Bob) Braaten of Byron; and brother Duane (Beverly) of Florida.
 
Harriet will also be missed by her 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
 
Harriet was preceded in death by her brother Bruce, parents, husband and stepson Bob Jester.
 
The funeral service for Harriet will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 22 at the First Congregational Church, 515 Walnut Street, Mantorville with Pastor Brian Egelston officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Mantorville, MN at a later date.

Mavis A. Matti was born to Lydia and Albert Rossi on December 9, 1918 in Milton Township, Dodge County, Minnesota. Mavis attended school in West Concord and graduated in 1936. She married Victor Matti in 1938 and they farmed in the Concord area.
 
Mavis worked at the Mayo Clinic for 23 years. She retired in 1983. After retirement, she was a nanny for the Rud family of Mantorville. Mavis was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson and a past member of the Zwingli Church in Berne. She enjoyed water aerobics and having coffee with her friends from the community. She was a life-long member of the Jolly Neighbors Club. Mavis loved music, especially playing the piano. She enjoyed playing for others at community events, nursing homes and wherever she was asked.
 
Mavis is survived by Doug and Nancy Matti of Hayfield, Dwayne and Mary Lou Matti of Rochester, DeAnna and Dale Dahle of Kasson, Donna and Dan Kutzler of Dodge Center, 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Matti, and grandson Joe Kutzler.
 
The funeral service for Mavis will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave NW, Kasson with Pastor John Allen officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Berne Cemetery at a later date.

On May 20, 2017 Terry Allen Goodwill, 56, died of cancer at Season’s Hospice House in Rochester, Minnesota.
 
Terry was born on March 5, 1961 in Mitchell, South Dakota. He moved with his family to Hazelton, Iowa and then to Mason City in 1981. Terry was a graduate of Mason City High School and attended North Iowa Area Community College where he also played basketball.
 
He was married to his loving wife, Lori Joy McClintock at the Garner United Methodist Church on May 10, 1981. Lori and Terry moved to Independence, Iowa where they lived from 1981-1984. They then resided in Cresco, Iowa from 1984-1986 and currently live in Kasson, Minnesota. Terry worked as an electrician at Viracon in Owatonna, MN for 25 years. Lori has worked at the Mayo Clinic since 1986 as a registered nurse.
 
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Irene Goodwill and infant brother Todd. He is survived by his wife Lori of Kasson; daughter Jennifer Goodwill; son Brian Goodwill; grandchildren Isabelle Stankey, Aaron Caradine, Olivia Caradine and Jasmine Goodwill all of Rochester; and sister Dawn Callahan of Independence, Iowa.
 
Terry was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 26, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 – 8th Ave NW, Kasson with Pastor John Allen officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.
