Robert H. Olson ~ Kasson

Robert H. Olson, 67, of Kasson, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014.

Bob was born to Mandius and Kathleen Olson in Decorah, Iowa, on March 22, 1947. The family moved to Cresco, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. After attending the University of Northern Iowa, he began a career with the Leuthold Company. In 1986 Bob transferred to work at the Kasson, Leuthold store where he retired in 2006.

Bob enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, golfing, singing in the church choir and was an avid bowler, having earned bowler of the year more than once at the Cresco Bowling alley. Bob also enjoyed spending time with his friends, eating lutefisk, harvesting walnuts and attending the local high school football and wrestling events.

Bob leaves behind many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 Eighth Ave. N.W., Kasson, with Pastor Randy Fett officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Clara L. Brekke ~ Kasson

Brekke, Clara

Clara Lucille Erickson Brekke of Kasson was called home to our Lord and Savior on March 28, 2014 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN. Clara was born the youngest child to Rangvold and Alma Erickson in Rock Dell, MN on December 9, 1919.

She was married to Richard L. Brekke on December 31, 1938 at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell, MN. They farmed in the Rock Dell area until 1953 when they moved to Kasson and raised four children.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; three sisters Genevieve Anderson, Bernie Gates Parkin, Ruby Matzke and brother Lloyd Erickson. Clara is survived by four children, Philip (Donna) of Battle Ground, WA, William (Maria) of Copenhagen, Denmark, Thomas (Judi) of Avon, MN and Joyce (Stephen Pierren) of New Hope, MN. Clara has 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews across the United States and in Europe.

Clara was an avid golfer. She worked as a registered dental assistant for Dr. L. Serverance at the Kasson Dental Clinic and served St. John’s Lutheran Church in many capacities, including Past President of WELCA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave NW, Kasson, MN with Pastor Randy Fett officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the East St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, Rock Dell, MN at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the church.

Alma Houghton ~ Kasson

Alma Alverta Houghton was born on March 6, 1918 in Tolstoy, South Dakota to Michael and Margaret Bollinger.

Alma passed away April 10, 2014, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, Minnesota.

Alma married Norman Houghton in Huron, South Dakota on September 6, 1944 where they farmed around Seneca, South Dakota until 1956. They then moved to Kasson, MN in the early 1960’s. Norman and Alma started their own business, Houghton Sanitation, and later sold the business to their son, Russell.

In 1964, Alma started working as a care-giver at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center until she retired in 1984.

After her husband Norman’s death in September of 1991, Alma lived with her daughter in Rochester and later in Kasson.

Alma enjoyed making quilts, having made over 200 during her retirement. She also enjoyed her garden and most of all her love for animals, her cats and dog, Maggie.

Alma is survived by her daughter Relda Houghton; granddaughter Sheri Pierson; great-grandson Nicholas Pierson; great-granddaughter Brianna Pierson and daughter-in-law Louise Houghton.

She was preceded in death by her husband Norman; son Russell; daughter-in-law Dorothy Houghton; two brothers and seven sisters.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 9:00-10:00 am at the Dibble Funeral Home, 213 W. Main Street, Kasson, MN. Graveside services will follow at 10:30 am at the Byron Cemetery, Byron, MN with Pastor Michael Jones of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Dodge Center officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be directed to them.

Audrey M. Hoffman ~ Kasson

Audrey Marie O’Brien Hoffman, 86, of Kasson was called home on April 11, 2014.

Audrey was born in Rochester and the oldest of three girls born to William and Mildred (Lienau) O’Brien on June 29, 1927.

She grew up in the Kasson area on a rural country farm and attended rural Kasson school. She was married to Vergel Hoffman on July 19, 1950 in Kasson. They continued to live in Kasson and raise two daughters.

Audrey worked for Dr. Affeldt for 15 years. After his retirement, she was employed at the Kasson American Legion for the past 34 years. Audrey enjoyed her house plants and always looked forward to spring so she could plant her outside gardens. When Vergel was alive, she looked forward to Sunday afternoon drives and still did. When winter came, she would do embroidery and cross-stitch work. She also loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Audrey is survived by two daughters, Carol Blaisdell of Rosemount and Kathy Hegna of Kasson, five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; Clifford and Mary Awsumb and children Josie and Andrew Awsumb; Layla and Stephen Werkmeister and Brendnen Larson of Ramsey; Scott and Nicki Blaisdell and children Regan, Carson and Hudson of Northfield; Karen and Al Hawley and children Katelyn and Jessica of Rosemount; Mesha Hegna of Minneapolis; Shawn and Rhonda Hegna and children Dylon and Marissa; Marion Keifer of Dodge Center and Belva Siple of Idaho. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vergel, and three son-in-laws; Rick Awsumb, Dale Blaisdell and Sid Hegna.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave NW, Kasson, MN. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 15 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Dibble Funeral Home, 213 W. Main St., Kasson, MN and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

Bernice Hackenmiller ~ Kasson

Bernice Hackenmiller, 88, of Kasson, died at her home Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

Bernice was born May 6, 1925, to Paul and Rose Huemann in Stacyville, Iowa. She was the oldest of four children. In 1945 she married Sylvan “Hack” Hackenmiller. They lived in Austin during the early years of their marriage eventually moving to Rochester in 1958, with their three daughters. In 1967, they purchased a farm in Kasson and lived there the remainder of their married life. During that time Bernice was a long-time employee of Leuthold-Fencl and Ben Franklin (now known as Kasson Variety).

Upon her retirement she enjoyed time with family and many friends. After Hack’s death in 1993, Bernice continued to live on the farm until 2007, when she purchased her “perfect house” in downtown Kasson. Following her cancer diagnosis in 2012, she continued to live in her house with the loving assistance of her daughter, Nancy and support of Mayo Clinic Hospice.

She is survived by daughters, Barbara (Joseph) Gaida, Nancy Hackenmiller and Mary (Conrad) Olson; seven grandchildren, Chris, Gretchen, Geoffrey, Jacqueline, Matt, Dan and Karen; and five great-grandsons, Dylan, Ryan, Blake, Noah and Finnley. She is also survived by her sister, Donna Wagner; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 22, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Family, 1904 N. Mantorville Ave., in Kasson. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m.

The funeral will be Wednesday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the church, with Father Paul Suprenant officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery in Stacyville, Iowa, at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorial are preferred to Mayo Clinic Hospice.

Lorraine Aarsvold ~ Kasson

Lorraine May Aarsvold, a lifetime resident of rural Kasson, died peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Lonsdale, Minnesota. She was born on July 14, 1925, to Ole and Lily Gunderson. She graduated from Kasson High School in 1942 and then attended Mankato Business College. While still taking courses at Mankato, she received a job offer from Kenneth Myster, Attorney-at-Law, in Kasson. She worked at Mr. Myster’s office until her marriage in 1945 to Wallace Aarsvold, her childhood friend and neighbor who later became her sweetheart.

In 1946, they were blessed with the first of their five children, and later that year they bought the farm which remained their home for the rest of their lives. After the children started school, Lorraine went back to work for Mr. Myster, working a total of 17 years before retiring from that job. She continued to farm with her husband until they retired from farming in 2007.

Lorraine was very active in her church (South Zumbro), where she taught Sunday School, served on the church council as Treasurer, and was active in Ladies Aid. She was an inspiration to those who knew her, and was known for her fun spirit, her beautiful smile, and her active concerns for others.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of nearly 64 years, three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, a niece and two nephews. She is survived by her children: Wayne (Mary Kathryn) Aarsvold of Kasson, Lois (John) Burdick of Phoenix, AZ, Joe (Pat) Aarsvold of Lakewood, CA, Janet (Sam) Lotegeluaki of Lonsdale, MN, and Todd Aarsvold of Kasson, MN and by grandchildren Paul (Val) Aarsvold of Plainview, MN, Chris (Terri) Burdick of Lakeville, MN, Chad (Tammy) Burdick of Council Bluffs, IA, Nicole (Mike) Halda of Rochester, MN, Erin Aarsvold of Los Angeles, CA, Danielle, Emily and Hayley Aarsvold of Lakewood, CA, Stanley Lotegeluaki of Pittsfield, MA, Jonathan Lotegeluaki of Tomah, WI, Eunice Eddington of Milwaukee, WI, Grace Lotegeluaki of Milwaukee, WI, Naakaki (Ray) Texerira of Eagan, MN, Amani (Cara) Lotegeluaki of Milwaukee, WI, Joseph (Tyanna) Lotegeluaki of Sun Prairie, WI and Brooklyn and Jakob Aarsvold of Kasson, MN. She is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, her brother Gordon (Ellen) of Mora, MN, one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Her family will dearly miss her and will remember her beautiful smile, her listening ear, her gentle touch, her kind heart, her wise counsel, and the interest she showed in their daily lives.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the South Zumbro Lutheran Church, 4830 – 120th Avenue SW, Kasson, MN, from 5:00-7:00 pm and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Friday, April 25, 2014, also at South Zumbro with Pastor David Steffenson of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Rochester, MN, officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the South Zumbro Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Donnie Zweifel ~ Mantorville

Donnie Zweifel, 67, of Mantorville, passed away at his home of natural causes on Thursday, May 8, 2014.

Donnie was born Feb. 28, 1947, to Henry and Evelyn Zweifel. He was raised on a farm north of Mantorville and graduated from Kasson-Mantorville High School in 1965. He owned and operated Mantorville Radiator, where he repaired radiators and cars. He also was a used car dealer and operated Wholesale Auto in Mantorville.

Donnie’s one passion in life was racing. He raced on dirt tracks throughout southern Minnesota, northern Iowa and western Wisconsin. Occasionally he would tour and race on bigger tracks in Amarillo, Texas and Batesville, Ark. In the early 1900s he briefly left the dirt track for ARCA Series Circuit asphalt racing, then returned back to the dirt track circuit.

Donnie is survived by his brother, Darrel (Marion) Zweifel of Bullhead City, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He will be missed and remembered by his many friends.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, May 16, at the Dibble Funeral Home, 213 W. Main St. in Kasson. There will be no reviewal. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 16, at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.

Following the graveside service you are invited to the Mantorville Saloon, 501 Main St. N., Mantorville, MN 55955, for fellowship and a celebration of Donnie’s life.

James Glenn Olson passed away at his home on Friday, May 22, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born to Glennes & Eileen (Barth) Olson on November 3, 1943 at their home in Pine Island, Minnesota.

Jim grew up on a farm and attended school in Pine Island. On September 25, 1965 he married Mary Lee Mann at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Zumbrota, MN. They lived in Pine Island for 25 years before residing in Kasson. Jim retired from Bob Braaten Construction, ending a long career as a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee; son Tracy (Kris) Olson of Byron; daughters Laura (Todd) Eggler of Kasson and Lisa (Wayne) King of Pine Island; grandchildren James (Alexis) Olson and Hunter Olson, Larissa & Maria Eggler, Tessa & Stephny King; great-grandchildren Hannah, Leila, Tate and Trent; brothers Dean (Jan) Olson of Crescent City, CA and Lynn (Sandy) Olson of Cripple Creek, CO; and sisters Roxanne (Wally) Bray of Apache Junction, AZ and Kabrie (Jim) Miller of Pine Island, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents Glennes & Eileen, brother Chuck Olson and granddaughter Jessica King.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM at The Church of the Holy Family, 1904 North Mantorville Avenue, Kasson, MN with Fr. Paul Surprenant officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00-11:00 AM the day of the service. There will be no reviewal.


Einar Jorgensen ~ Kasson

Jorgensen, Einar

Einar Jorgensen was born 90 years ago in Hukksund, Norway, to Hans and Kari Jorgensen, the Lord called him home Sunday, June 8, 2014.

At age two he came with his mother to join his father in the United States. After graduating from Madelia High School in 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and served with the 99th Battalion Mountain Infantry. After discharge he joined his father and brother in the construction business. On Feb. 22, 1947, he married Marion Brekke in Madelia. His work in the construction business moved he and his family to Preston, Deer River and Byron before settling in a home he built in Kasson. He spent many years as a construction superintendent before retiring from A.E. Benike in 1986.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, traveling, and particularly woodworking, in addition to enjoying lutefisk and lefse. He was active in the church an always looked forward to participating in the Norwegian supper.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marion; daughter, Karen (Dick) Swalla of Park Rapids; sons, David (Nancy) of Rochester and Paul (Roberta) of Lake City; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marian Spoolhoff of Eau Claire, Wis.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Karyl and brother, Norman.

Visitation will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 Eighth Ave N.W., in Kasson, on Wednesday, June 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be no reviewal.

Funeral service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson on Thursday, June 12, at 11 a.m., with Pastors Randy Fett and Nirmala Reinschmidt co-officiating. Visitation will also be for one hour before the service. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.

Harriet Lillian Anderson, 91, of Mantorville passed away peacefully Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, MN where she had been a resident for five weeks.

 

She was born November 22, 1922 in Claremont to Albert & Christine Krippner.  She married Floyd Anderson on February 14, 1942 in Dodge Center.  Harriet was a devoted mother and housewife.  She was active in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Ladies activities.  She enjoyed spending time with family & friends, garage sales, gardening, sewing, eating out, going for drives and watching the birds and squirrels.

 

Survivors include four sons,  Dean (Lil) of Henderson, NV, Richard of Rochester, MN, Dale (Susan) of Hayfield, MN and Daniel of Mantorville; one sister, Louise Knippel of Owatonna and two brothers, Earl Krippner of Rochester and Jay (Gerry) Krippner of Cromwell, MN; grandchildren, Craig, Sean Ross, Bradley & Miranda Anderson, Tara Braun, Amy Caron, Kari Vandal and nine great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, in 2004; one brother, George Krampitz; one sister, Dorothy Lybeck and daughter-in-law Patricia Anderson.

 

A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in rural Mantorville with Pastor Nirmala Reinschmidt of St. John’s Lutheran Church officiating.  A visitation for family and friends will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave NW, Kasson, MN.

Alice Dorothy Coffman ~ Byron, MN

Alice Dorothy Coffman, 94, of Byron, MN passed away on July 1, 2014. Alice was born in Byron, MN on June 28, 1920.  Alice was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, crocheting, and bird watching.  She was an active member of the United Methodist Church.

 

Alice is survived by four daughters:  Joyce Bacon of Rosemount, MN, Charlotte Roble (Roy) of Byron, MN, Rosalie Borgschatz (Bernie) of Byron, MN and Joan Hodge (Jim) of Duluth, MN; 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.  Alice was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, son Jerry, son-in-law Don, one brother, one sister, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one great-great grandchild.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, 507 1st Ave NW, Byron, MN with Pastor Beth Perez officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at the Byron Cemetery.

Ronald “Ron” D. Jones ~ Mantorville

Ronald D. Jones, 66, of Mantorville, died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

 

Ron was born on May 28, 1948, in Liberal, KS, to Fred and Bonnie (Fessler) Jones. He graduated from Liberal High School in 1966 and went on to electronics school in Kansas City, KS. From 1967 to 1971, Ron served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves as a radio operator, including a year spent in Vietnam. After leaving the military as a staff sergeant, he returned to the Mantorville area and was employed by the local gas company for 6 years and K-M Telecom for 30 years. Before retiring in 2010, Ron worked at Home Depot in Rochester. His retirement was spent doing all of his favorite hobbies. Ron continued to be an amateur ham radio operator making contacts all over the world, spent quiet days flying remote control model airplanes, or could be found in his woodworking shop. In recent years, Ron and Betty, his wife of 28 years, visited Alaska, Arizona, South Dakota, New Zealand, and Australia, sharing their love of travel. They also enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, Brody and Chloe.

 

Ron is survived by his wife, Betty, of Mantorville; her children, Pam (Dan) Herrley Kucera, of Faribault, and Jeff Herrley, of Dodge Center; grandchildren, Brody and Chloe Kucera, of Faribault; and many friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 Eighth Avenue NW, in Kasson with Pastor Nirmalla Reinschmidt officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to them for distribution according to their wishes at a later time.

Genevieve “Gen” M. Sorenson ~ Kasson

Genevieve “Gen” M. Sorenson, 83 of Kasson, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Genevieve May Josselyn was born on March 25, 1931 in Rochester to Lynn and Margaret (Heins) Josselyn. She attended country school and graduated from Rochester High School. On January 6, 1956, Gen married Philip Nelse Sorenson in Rochester. She and Phil met at the PlaMor Ballroom as Phil played trumpet with the Polka Dots Band. Phil died on February 20th, 1981, one month after their 25th wedding anniversary. Gen continued to live in Kasson, retiring from Mayo in 1994. She was a member of Kasson United Methodist Church, Miriam Circle, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, AFS, Faith in Action and Meals on Wheels.

Gen enjoyed reading, cooking and baking, cheering on the Minnesota Twins, playing cards, traveling by ground transportation and her “mission work”. She was the historian for the Heins family for many years. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family.

Gen is survived by her son Alan (Jodene) Sorenson, Patricia (Randy) Wilbur and Sally (Chuck) Coleman all of Kasson. Her grandchildren Christopher (Aimee) Wilbur of Rochester; Courtney Wilbur of Kasson; Amanda Sorenson of Kasson; Anna Coleman and Amber Coleman of Kasson; great granddaughter, Avaya May of Kasson. She is also survived by brothers and sisters Richard (Dobby) Josselyn, Betty (Harvey) Holtan, Ronald Josselyn, Marlynn (Jerry) Brown, Marjorie Heckman and sister-in-law Margaret Josselyn. Gen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phil; two brothers: Lowell (Jim) Josselyn and Larry Josselyn and sister-in-law Charlotte Josselyn.

Visitation will be held July 31st, 2014 from 5 to 8 pm and one hour before the service at the Kasson United Methodist Church. The funeral will be held on August 1st, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Kasson United Methodist Church with Pastor Joel Xavier officiating. The family prefers memorial to the United Methodist Church.


Nancy Brannan ~ Kasson

Nancy Brannan passed away July 25, 2014 at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield at the age of 74 surrounded by her family.   She was born Aug. 26, 1939 to Amos (Pete) and Marion (Hemingway) Kirkland in Mantorville Twp. She graduated from West Concord High School in 1957. Nancy married Cecil Brannan on Oct. 8, 1960 at the Kasson United Methodist Church. They lived in the Kasson area all their married life. Nancy worked in the Olmsted County Welfare office from 1957 until 1963, when she started her family and became a full time homemaker.

Nancy enjoyed getting together with family and friends. She also enjoyed working with her flowers and loved to bake, cook, and watch the birds. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kasson.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Cecil; two sons Michael (Bette) Brannan of Bloomington, MN and Kirk (Gina) Brannan of Rochester, MN; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one       brother, Larry Kirkland of Byron, MN.      She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Kirkland.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 30th at the United Methodist Church, 801 – 5th Avenue N.W. in Kasson, with Pastor Joel Xavier officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be no reviewal.                                                                                                                                                             Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church of Kasson, or a place of your choice.

Marion Burdick, age 94, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Prairie Meadows in Kasson, MN.

She was born May 15, 1920 to Klaus and Henrietta Alberts, the oldest of eleven children. Marion graduated from Mantorville High School as the valedictorian of the Class of 1938. On June 30 of that year, she married Robert Burdick, a classmate. They began dairy farming in the Mantorville area and continued until 1991. After retiring, they continued to live on the farm until 2010.

She was active in community and church activities her entire life. For many years she was Mantorville Township Clerk. She was active as a 4-H leader, coordinated the Dodge County Dairy Princess contest, member of Eastern Star, longtime member of Bethel Birthday Club, Dodge County Homemakers, active in Associated Milk Producers, Inc., and the Presbyterian Women’s Circle in Kasson. Early on she was the clerk of the cheese factory adjacent to the family farm. For many years Marion and Bob square danced with the MC Squares Club in Rochester. In 1999, Marion and Bob were honored as the Grand Marshals of Marigold Days in Mantorville.

Marion is survived by four daughters, Karen (Jerry) Ransford, Nancy Sheppard, Patricia (Bernie) Beaver, Jane (Mark) Erickson and daughter-in-law Lois Burdick. Also surviving her are 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Robert, and her son, John Burdick. She is also survived by five sisters and two brothers.

Marion’s funeral will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 6th Ave. NW, Kasson, MN at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 11 with the visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Clint Patterson will preside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church of Kasson, Mayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center – 200 First Ave SW, Rochester, MN 55905, or the charity of choice.

Ilean J. Nereson, 88 (but would have told you she was “39) of Dodge Center joined her husband Harlan E. Nereson and her daughter Anita (Nita) Nereson in heaven on September 12, 2014 in her home with her granddaughter by her side.

 

Ilean was born May 17, 1926 to Arthur and Henrietta (Nelson) Hyland in Geneva, Minnesota.  On October 27, 1945 at the Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, she was joined in marriage to Harlan E. Nereson.  Harlan passed away at home on January 21, 1993.

 

At an early age she became a nurses aid; a job she excelled at and very much fit her compassionate personality.  Ilean’s career consisted of helping her husband at the Rochester Chicken Hatchery, and later on going “on the road” for him when they owned Center Supply in Dodge Center.  She later worked as a “Kelly girl” demonstrating new foods at many Rochester grocery stores.

 

She was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir at Faith Lutheran Church.  Ilean was a member of the American Legion for 50 continuous years, Eastern Star, Monday Night Musical, Home Extension Study Group and the Birthday Club.  She loved dancing, cooking, canning, was an excellent mender, enjoyed her “scandal sheets” as she called them, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, working hard and doing for others.

 

Survivors include special granddaughter Simone Sackett of Dodge Center; grandson Joshua Nereson of Rochester; daughter Rita (Adrean) Fernandez of Forks, Washington; son Harlan A. “Tuzz” (Linda) Nereson of Rochester; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Gordon “Scotty” (Linda) Hyland of LaMirada, California; and sister Shirley Hampel of Plainview, MN.

 

Mrs. Nereson was preceded in death by her husband Harlan E. Nereson, daughter Anita (Nita) Nereson, her parents, one brother and three sisters.

 

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, September 16, from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Dibble Funeral Home, 213 W. Main Street, Kasson, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church.   There will be no reviewal.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 17 at Faith Lutheran Church, 308 2nd St. NW, Dodge Center, MN with Pastor Barbara Streed officiating.  Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Dodge Center, MN.

Austinson, David

David Allen Austinson, 53, was surrounded by his family as he passed from this world into eternal life, Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, following a short recurrent illness with cancer.

He was born in Riceville, Iowa, and made his home with his family in Kasson for the last 27 years. He was employed at the Mayo Clinic for 25 years.

His passions in life were his God, his family, the Minnesota State Fair, and his love of sports – especially the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Dave was a great family man and friend to many. He will be deeply missed.

He leaves behind his wife, Barb of 27 years; two sons, Andrew and grandson, Arnez of Minneapolis; and Derrick of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his parents, Delmar and Barbara Austinson of Mason City, Iowa; two sisters, Jenelle (Gary) Pierce of Lake Mills, Iowa, Gwendolyn (Jonathon) Meyer of Grain Valley, Mo.; along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 Eighth Ave. N.W. in Kasson, and one hour prior to the service on Monday.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson, with Pastor Randy Fett officiating. A lunch will follow in the fellowship hall after the service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Delavan later in the day.
